A Gatsby Fairy Tale
When Esther Gallarday approached me about doing a photo shoot together I was ecstatic! How exciting that she wanted AKM Events to style her shoot and recreate her vision. When she told me it would be a 1920’s style Gatsby shoot I almost fell off my chair. We would be working with soft pastels and lace rather than black and gold in the art deco we all seem to associate with that era. Teenage memories of reading the F. Scott Fitzgerald book came flooding back! This was one of my favorites from high school 20th century Lit. As a reward for getting through the book together we were allowed to watch the 1974 version with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. I think that I was the only one in the class that was instantly IN LOVE!! I even ran out opening weekend to see Leonardo Dicaprio depict the Great Jay Gatsby! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!
“If it wasn’t for the mist we could see your home across the bay,” said Gatsby. “You always have a green light that burns all night at the end of your dock.” Daisy put her arm through his abruptly, but he seemed absorbed in what he had just said. Possibly it had occurred to him that the colossal significance of that light had now vanished forever. Compared to the great distance that had separated him from Daisy it had seemed very near to her, almost touching her. It had seemed as close as a star to the moon. Now it was again a green light on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one.
So, of course I WAS IN! I immediately called Christina from 27 Dresses Designs. I knew she would know just the right hair piece to create to go along with all the dresses, linens and centerpieces dancing in my head! Turns out she made the bridesmaids dresses for the shoot too. They were perfection! This was the first time I had met Madga from Fleurishly, Inc and we were all instant friends. We all chatted over email and text over the next few weeks but had not had another chance to actually sit down for another Pow Wow. It didn’t matter! Our collective creativity somehow just… CLICKED! LeMagnifique Blog picked up our shoot soon after we finished. It was a work of art that I know we are all proud of. The gorgeous dresses and accessories, the subtle beauty in the design of the shoot, the amazing florals and of course the vision and the master of the photographer’s lens.
